Het bedrijf is ontwikkelaar, exploitant en eigenaar van grote datacenters in wereldwijd. In Amsterdam is het datacenter rechtstreeks aangesloten op het landelijke netwerk en biedt het standaard 2000 W/m2, met volledige ondersteuning voor hogere dichtheden. Daarbij zijn ze de enige provider in de stad met een eigen stroomvoorziening van 60MVA (huidig en gepland) bij 50 kV.


Job description

  • the Senior Engineer will be responsible for over viewing and analyzing the service delivery performance of the Amsterdam infrastructure (financial, operational), provide direction on engineering problems, initiate and facilitate (coordinating the engineering design) infrastructural improvement / development projects;
  • the role will be based in Amsterdam and may require work at other company Data Centers as required. You must be willing to travel within Europe on relatively short notice to fulfill the role;
  • to implement, and standardize as far as practically possible, highest standards of cost, quality and program control throughout the design and build phases of multiple projects in Amsterdam;
  • responsible for coordination of all technical activities on assigned projects. Project planning, feasibility and evaluation, scheduling and coordination of projects, monitors work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices;
  • plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of new facilities and equipment;
  • analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications;
  • coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities;
  • assist in developing capital project programs and budgets for new equipment and major repairs;
  • review equipment failures and diagnose faulty operation;
  • collect and analyze data relating to operating efficiency of installed systems and equipment;
  • identify suitable consultants and contractors; assign, direct, and evaluate their work;
  • able to identify key risks and help to plan and mitigate against the risks to ensure continuity of work. Run a risk register to capture and close risks as they are identified;
  • assist in the preparation of contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors;
  • play a leading role in the delivery of the M&E design and assist with M&E Consultants in achieving cost effective and resilient infrastructures on each site they work on;
  • advise and maintain standards for monitoring design and construction program, cost control and project information systems to ensure successful project delivery;
  • ensure compliance with all relevant local permitting and government/local authority regulations;
  • work with the Managing Director Amsterdam Regional Engineering Director to assist and develop continual process improvement for the benefit of Global Switch and their clients;
  • in a structured way initiate activities and projects to optimize the capability of the our infrastructure to deliver a sustained level of availability in the most cost effective way. operational performance(sustained level of services avail) and cost performance of our infrastructure;
  • for defined systems, manages and approves all structural changes;
  • on a regular basis develop an comprehensive system service provision / life-cycle plan. The plan should, among others, take into account,  operational (service delivery) and maintenance performance and costs, life-cycle issues (known risks, problems, EOL / EOS, condition ), expected –future- levels of capacity and availability, and best available technologies. The plan is the basis for initiating projects to improve the system service and cost performance;
  • initiate developments to fulfill – future- availability and capacity requirements;
  • work with the Operations team on energy performance monitoring, preparation of reports and initiate developments to improve energy efficiency / PUE ;
  • work with the Regional Engineering Director with respect to preparation of weekly / monthly reports for submission to senior management;
  • together with local construction and fit out teams ensure all project plans and information are properly communicated and understood by all relevant GS staff including costs, design schedules, procurement, construction issues, M&E technical data, construction issues, contractor invoices and payments, funding requirements, change order notifications and any other issues that might materially affect the construction progress of each project;
  • ensure timely resolution of issues and deficiencies and develop and implement contingency plans to recover project slippage when appropriate;
  • play a leading role in the operations and maintenance review ensuring the proper and complete handover of the completed works to the GS operations teams;
  • participate in a culture of a teamwork and continuous improvement;
  • works closely with the Development Managers, Engineering Directors, Construction Managers, Site Operations Managers, Facility Managers / Supervisors and roll out team regarding the design, construction and progress of the works;
  • regular liaison with consultants and relevant authorities to ensure correct design and implementation of utility supplies;
  • the role will have a strong focus on contractor management and performance, establishing and managing relationships with key stakeholders.



  • relevant Engineering Degree or acceptable Engineering Diploma.
  • worked in a critical Data Center environment;
  • has worked at a senior management level for a minimum of three years;
  • proficient in the use of MS Project and other MS Office programs and use of AutoCAD;
  • strong knowledge of M&E works and local authority approval process;
  • at minimum of five years Data Center design/operations experience;
  • working knowledge of all critical systems equipment;
  • health and Safety legislation in particular CDM Regulations;
  • must fully understand the issues around time, cost and quality with a strong emphasis on delivery to budget, yet meeting the operations of a high end blue chip customer based business;
  • must be willing to travel within Europe on relatively short notice;
  • strong time management skills;
  • able to demonstrate initiative;
  • self-motivated and able to think through complex issues;
  • can identify and quantify risks for remediation where possible;
  • must have the ability to work accurately and consistently under pressure;
  • must be able to operate in an open management style and structure with an emphasis on multi-national team working;
  • analytical thinking, quality focus, initiative, flexibility, business focus and interpersonal skills.

Geboden wordt:

  • direct een tijdelijk contract bij het bedrijf met uitzicht op een vaste aanstelling bij goed functioneren;
  • salaris € 60.000,= – € 70.000,= op jaarbasis (inclusief vakantiegeld);
